We understand that you’re coming to us as experts in our field and realize we may be using terms that you’re unfamiliar with, so to keep things simple, we’ve created a glossary of terms so you understand what we’re talking about on calls and emails!

Tourism/Economic Development Terms

Experiential Tourism
A form of tourism where people focus on experiencing a country, city, or particular place by engaging with its history through interactions with the people, food, and environment.

Economic Development
The strategy and improvement of well-being and quality of life within communities, nations, or regions through targeted goals and objectives.

Sustainable and Regenerative Tourism
This form of tourism ensures visitors leave a positive impact on their holiday destination by leaving it in a better condition than how they found it. This includes bringing in continuous revenue and driving traffic to a community and their businesses.

Pilot Testing
Coaches and businesses coordinate and run a test experience to ensure everything runs smoothly and is ready for the public market.

Website Design & Development Terms

Domain
The name or URL of a website, eg. klbconsultants.ca.

Web Platform
The website authorizing software that allows you to host a website online, eg. Squarespace or WordPress.

SSL Security
Also known as Secure Sockets Layer. It is a standard technology used to keep internet connections secure whilst safeguarding any sensitive information that is being sent between the two systems.

Web Accessibility
A standard practice to ensure that your website can be viewed and navigated through by any user

eCommerce
Also known as electric commerce, is the form of buying and selling products online through a website. These products can be both physical items that need to be shipped or digital items that need to be downloaded.

Favicon
The small icon that appears on the tab within a browser (this can only be seen when viewing a site on a desktop).

Landing Page
The page users first see when they they visit a website.

Navigation
The system/menu that allows users to move around a website.

Plug-in
Third-party applications that can be connected to your website such as additional functionality.

Call-to-action (CTA)
Content that evokes a user to take action, eg. Book an Appointment, Add to Cart, etc.

404 Error
The term used to describe pages that no longer exist or their URL has been changed.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
The process of ensuring your website includes content and keywords that end up in search results.

Mock-ups/Wireframes
Allows clients to see the structure and design of their site before time and money are spent on the real thing.

Front End
The part of the website that the user interacts with, such as the navigation, colour, fonts, content, etc. These are all the items that the user will interact with and view as they are on your website.

Back End
This is the part of the website that only the admin can access such as managing the server, edits to the website and any databases that are attached to the site.

User Interface Design
The process of understanding how the user navigates through the website and designing the website in a way that is easy to access and understand.
